WITH only a matter of weeks until the Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast in April, Dame Mary Peters will be in Fermanagh on Commonwealth Day (Monday, March 12).

Dame Mary, who won Commonwealth and Olympic Gold Medals and is Patron of the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council, will be visiting the county to support events and encourage young athletes.
She will be joined on the day by Enniskillen oarswoman Holly Nixon, rowing World Champion.

Commonwealth Day is celebrated every year on the second Monday of March with events which promote the vast diversity, strong unity and uplifting values that define the nations of the Commonwealth.

This year, Commonwealth Day precedes the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting when the leaders of 53 independent member countries will meet in London to address key global challenges and agree how to work together for the welfare and common good of its 2.4 billion citizens.

To celebrate this occasion, and the forthcoming participation of local athletes in the upcoming Commonwealth Games, Enniskillen Rotary Club are hosting a lunch event on Commonwealth Day at 1pm in the Lisgoole Suite at the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen.

Dame Mary Peters and Holly Nixon will be inspirational guest speakers.
Enniskillen Rotary Club are extending an open invitation to join them for lunch on March 12.

You can book a place, costing £12, by contacting Henry Robinson, President of Enniskillen Rotary Club, via email at harobinson@gmail.com, mobile phone on 07889 033477, or at the Killyhevlin Hotel.
