Hundreds of schoolchildren and members of the public have enjoyed the first day of The Bible Comes To Life Exhibition which opened yesterday morning (Thursday) in St. Macartin’s Cathedral Hall, Enniskillen.

The Dean of Clogher, The Very Revd Kenneth Hall, who is Chairman of the organising committee, helped to promote the event by walking through the streets of Enniskillen dressed in Joseph’s coat of many colours, accompanied by exhibition staff, all dressed in characters from the Holy Land.

School groups from Fermanagh and Tyrone attended on the first day of the Exhibition with many more from Fermanagh, Tyrone and Sligo arriving on Friday.

Dean Hall, overwhelmed with the response from schools, said: “I’m absolutely delighted. The displays have to be seen to be believed as to how real they are and they certainly bring the Bible to life.

“We’re really pleased to have over 1000 young people through the doors in the first two days and the response from the young people has been very positive.”

Small groups of young people spent around 10 minutes at each of the six stations outlining different facets of the exhibition including worship, life in the desert, Jewish culture, Bible food, the temple and clothing before they were moved on at the sound of the Shofar, a trumpet horn from an antelope which is referred to in the Bible.

Paul Hames, from the Church’s Ministry Among Jewish People, who brought the touring exhibition from England, explained how this Anglican Church mission society has been active since 1809 and organises around six to eight exhibitions across the British Isles each year.

The exhibition was established by Samuel Schor, who grew up in a Jewish family in Jerusalem but decided to become an Anglican Minister and was ordained as Curate at St. John’s, Felixtowe.  He brought together a collection of artefacts illustrating Biblical Jewish life and began touring the country with it.

The exhibition which has been organised by Clogher Diocesan Board of Missions, continues today (Friday), opening to the public from 3pm-5pm and 6.30pm-9.30pm, on Saturday from 9.30am – 5pm and on Sunday from 11am – 12.30m and from 3pm – 7pm.
