A woman who was “frustrated at being arrested in her own home” was convicted of resisting arrest at Fermanagh Magistrates court this week. Denise Williams of Windmill Heights Enniskillen was fined £125 by District Judge Michael Ranahan.

A further charge of common assault against Brian Logue was withdrawn by the prosecution.

The court heard that police visited a house in the Enniskillen area after reports of a domestic incident. The defendant resisted arrest and “tensed her body” and was uncooperative.

Defending solicitor, Gary Smyth, stated that there was a degree of frustration on the part of his client at being arrested in her own home and he continued by stating that in “terms of resisting arrest this was at the lower end of the scale.”

Mr Smyth also explained that his client had significant health issues and that a report had been given to the court from her GP. He accepted that his client had a record but that there was a significant gap of 22 years since Williams’ last offence of this nature.

Judge Ranahan told the defendant that he was giving her “credit for her approach since arrest”.
