A BURGLAR who was caught on camera trying to break into people’s homes has been sentenced to almost two years in prison.

Kenneth Worley was caught on CCTV trying to break into a house in the Darrowby Drive area of Darlington in the early hours of October 4.

The 44-year-old, of Beaconsfield Street, Darlington, had already broken into the victim’s shed and taken a tub of sealant before trying the door handles on the house, which were locked.

Later that same night, Worley tried the front and back door handles of a house on Barlby Drive, which was also captured on CCTV, but left empty handed.

Worley was arrested and charged with burglary and attempted burglary.

He was also charged with four counts of interfering with a vehicle, and one count of theft from a motor vehicle.

He pleaded guilty to the offences and appeared at Teesside Crown Court where he was sentenced to 22 months in prison.

Detective Constable Paul Cooper, from Darlington CID, said: “We are very pleased with Worley’s sentence as he is a prolific thief who, had he not been arrested, would undoubtedly have continued to steal from people’s houses and sheds.

“These cases have also shown just how important good quality CCTV can be in protecting your home and property against thieves.”
