Local women from the Enniskillen Tangent Club have been working hard throughout the year to support Nexus NI, which provides services and support to those whose lives have been affected by sexual violence.
The Club’s most recent fundraiser generated £220 to help fund the specialist counselling services provided by Nexus in the town and enable more survivors to get help. This brings the total raised to date by the women to over £1000, with more events planned in the months ahead.
Commenting on their charitable fundraising, Vice-Chair, Tanya West said:
“We are so pleased to be able to present Nexus with another cheque following our recent fashion event and thrilled that our total now exceeds £1000. We know how important Nexus services are in the area and that the funds raised will be put to good use, helping more men and women to work through their trauma and rebuild their lives.”
Karen Dunlop-Wainwright, Community Fundraising Lead with Nexus NI said:
“All the hard work of the ladies to raise funds and much needed awareness of our work in Enniskillen means so much. We currently see 19 people each week in the town but we have 24 people who are waiting on our services and many more who we know are suffering in silence. The total raised by the Tangent Club to date is helping to cut waiting times and fund a survivor through a full 18-week programme of specialist counselling with Nexus. The awareness-raising which accompanies these fundraising activities is also vitally important.”
Nexus is seeing increasing demand for its services and the charity relies on the generosity and support of local people, groups and businesses to meet this demand, develop services, start conversations in our local communities and break the silence and stigma that surrounds sexual violence.
