A 45-year-old man has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of causing death by careless driving at Dungannon Crown Court on Wednesday, December 5.

However, Francis McCafferty of Grout Hall, Laghey, Pettigo, County Donegal pleaded not guilty to the original charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

The charge relates to a road traffic collision which happened on the Tullychurry Road, Kesh on January 5, 2014 in which McCafferty’s brother Patrick died. Patrick McCafferty sustained severe brain injuries and fractured ribs in the accident.

McCafferty also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle without insurance.

The defendant was released on continuing bail with the Judge imposing a driving ban on McCafferty if it was not already a aprt of the bail conditions.

McCafferty will appear again in Dungannon Crown Court on January 25, 2019.
