A man who threatened to cut the throat of supermarket security staff in Omagh was fined £250 today (Thursday).

Niall Cox from McCrea Park in Clogher had earlier pleaded guilty to common assault when he appeared before Omagh Magistrates Court.

The court was told the 23-year-old acted aggressively towards security staff as he was leaving an Asda store on 20 June last year, before returning a short time later and telling them; "I’m going to cut your f***ing throat.”

A prosecution lawyer said when he was arrested by police and shown CCTV footage of the incident, Cox only sniggered.

The court was told the offence took place while he was on bail, the day before he was sentenced for a more serious matter before the Crown Court.

A defence lawyer said at the time Cox had no criminal record in the jurisdiction and he should be given credit for his guilty plea.

The district judge said she would have considered a conditional discharge as no violence was directed at the injured party.  However she added, as Cox was on bail for a serious offence she would fine him £250.
