As Shopmobility Enniskillen celebrates its tenth year of operation, a local user has described the service as “a lifesaver.”

John McDowell hires a mobility scooter daily from Shopmobility Enniskillen and he would encourage anyone with reduced mobility to use the service.

Like many John wasn’t aware that the service was available until he had an accident which left him with reduced mobility.

Highlighting how helpful the service has been, John said: “The service is a lifesaver as it gives me the freedom to travel around Enniskillen town without any restriction.”

He continued: “Some people may be afraid to use a mobility scooter, but I can assure them that training is provided and it takes less than an hour to be trained.”

John added: “It’s not like a driving test, there is nothing to be afraid of.”

Whilst using the mobility scooter, John has noticed that some of the drop kerbs around Enniskillen Town are too high.

He said: “I would like them fixed to make the town more accessible for disabled people.”

Shopmobility Enniskillen provides motorised scooters and manual wheelchairs free of charge for daily hire.

These can be hired from two locations in Enniskillen Town - Translink, Ulsterbus Depot and Erneside Shopping Centre.
