Mrs Ita Jordan, Principal, along with all the children and staff of Saint Mary’s Primary School, Teemore, wish to extend their sincere thanks to all who supported their recent Easter Trocaire Draw in the school.

A hugely-impressive total amount of £1,173.86 and Euro 185.73 was raised. The whole school community was delighted to welcome Trocaire representative, Mr Gerry McNamee, to the school during the week, in order to forward the monies to Fr John Skinnader, to support his work of evangelisation and missionary endeavour in the town of Rumbek in South Sudan.

Fr John hails from Emyvale in Monaghan, and has worked in South Sudan for the last number of years. When he began his current ministry in Rumbek back in October, 2018, he was the only European in Rumbek at that time. As he so poignantly, and eloquently, indicated in October, his presence is a sign that the outside world, and the universal Church, have not forgotten the people of South Sudan.

Perhaps we might all hold on to that thought this blessed and joyful Easter season. Gerry spent a wonderful morning in the school, providing the children with an insight into Fr John’s work, particularly in the areas of education, health and food distribution.

He was also able to assure us that the monies raised will, amongst other work, help enable him build proper toilet facilities at two primary schools, and feed many of their pupils for a whole year. It was most gratifying to learn that each £12.50 raised will provide one good meal, per day, per child, for one year.

Thank you to everyone who supported our draw. May you have a holy and blessed Easter.
