Looking down the red carpet, or more accurately the Aladdin themed carpet, at the premiere of the new Aladdin movie in Leicester Square, London, seeing a Fermanagh family rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names in Holywood is not something you would expect to see.

But thanks to a surprise invitation from Disney that is just what happened for Emily Magee and her family.

Emily’s brother Thomas was tragically killed in a farm accident in 2017. And since this tragedy, the 10 year old put her efforts into raising funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation raising £20,000 for the charity.

And after hearing about all of Emily’s brilliant work, Disney invited Emily, her mother Jackie, father David and sister Luciana (4) to London to meet the stars.

“Make-A-Wish had told Disney about Emily’s story and the Disney team actually spoke to Emily and congratulated her and knew all about Thomas and the tragedy that surrounded the start of her fundraising,” explained Emily’s mum Jackie.

“It was a complete surprise to all of us. We weren’t really sure what we were going to when we were invited.

“We were just told we were going to see Aladdin. And when we arrived it was just so well organised and it was an amazing experience and we actually went to the premiere.”

Whilst walking down the carpet which was thronged with fans and paparazzi on both sides, the family got to rub shoulders with Will Smith, who plays the Genie in the film, Aladdin played by Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott who plays Princess Jasmine.

And Jackie was full of praise for all those they met as Emily and Luciana got to rub shoulders and chat with some of the most well known actors in the world.

“They all had so much time to spend and talk to the children and they were just so star struck they were on the big screen chatting to them and they are such wonderful superstars.

“They signed Emily’s autograph book. They asked their names and gave them hugs. They were just so down to earth.

“Emily wouldn’t have seen many of the Will Smith movies but before we went I was showing her and telling her a little about Will Smith and we Googled him and everything and when she met Will she was just totally starstruck and speechless and he was just so down to earth, so normal and full of chat.

“Luciana she is four and she is just princess mad and has watched Aladdin and knows all about the story so she just couldn’t wait to meet Princess Jasmine. Nobody else mattered only Princess Jasmine.”

The experience is one the family will never forget and Jackie is so grateful to Disney for extending the invite to her family.

“The whole experience of walking down with paparazzi lined for metres down the carpet and on the other side there were crowds and crowds of people out to meet Will Smith and Naomi Scott and there we were this family from Fermanagh walking down the middle of this carpet and the people were clapping and cheering when they saw we were with the Make-A-Wish team.

“It certainly was an unforgettable experience for the whole family,” she said.
