A 26-year-old man who was due to be released from prison in July has been given a further four month sentence at Fermanagh Magistrates Court.

Kevin Williamson, of Galliagh Park, Enniskillen was appearing via videolink from Maghaberry prison to face charges of using a motor vehicle with no insurance, possession of a Class B drug and dishonestly causing electricity to be diverted.

The court heard on July 22, 2017 police attended a property on the Derrin Road, Enniskillen.

The property was in darkness however there were electrical cables and lines running through the house which were connected to a lighting unit in a public shed.

On June 14, 2018 on Queen Street, Enniskillen at around 4.40am police were speaking to the defendant. Officers detected a smell of cannabis and observed Williamson becoming nervous.

Officers searched the 26 year old and seized cannabis worth £20. Williamson was cautioned and made a full admission during notebook interview.

On June 27, 2018 police observed a Ford Focus at Trory Jetty, Enniskillen. The car was not running and the keys were in the ignition. Officers asked Williamson for his licence which he was unable to produce. Checks on the car showed that the defendant was not insured to drive it.

Ciaran Roddy, representing Williamson said the diversion of electricity was not the most sophisticated or subtle of set-ups and his client had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

In relation to the drugs, Mr. Roddy said his client had admitted addiction to cannabis and the low level offence mirrored previous conduct.

For the no insurance he asked the court to take into account that there were no aggravating features and the car was stationary.

Mr. Roddy said Williamson was currently serving a 21 month sentence and was due for release in July. He said there was a degree of inevitability of action due to the waiving of a pre-sentence report and entering of pleas but added the three offences were on the lower end of the scale.

Finding Williamson guilty of all three charges, District Judge Michael Ranaghan sentenced him to four months in prison. For the no insurance, Williamson was disqualified from driving for two years and fined £150.
