A 55-year old Drumquin woman has died in hospital after initially being rescued from her submerged car in Lough Erne, near Kesh, late on Saturday night.

The woman, who has been named locally as Unagh Gallogly, worked as a nurse in the Western Health and Social Care Trust.

She was being treated in the SWAH when she passed on the morning of Monday 17th June 2019.

A PSNI statement read: "Police can confirm that a women aged in her 50s involved in an incident in Kesh on Saturday, June 15, sadly passed away this morning."

Armagh man, Alistair McCammon, and three police officers were involved in entering the water in Lough Erne to try and save Ms Gallogly.

Mr McCammon was returning back from the Lusty Beg to a nearby caravan with his family, by boat, when he came across the scene at Muckross Pier.

NIAS also released a statement to the Impartial Reporter, which stated: "NIAS despatched one emergency crew, one rapid response paramedic and one hazardous area response team to the scene.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was transferred to the South West Acute Hospital."

DUP leader and Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA, Arlene Foster, commended the "swift actions" of the emergency services involved in trying to save Ms Gallogly.

She also emphasised that the community's thoughts are with Ms Gallogly's family at this time.

Ulster Unionist MLA Rosemary Barton has expressed her sympathy to the family of the lady who died on Monday following her car plunging into Lough Erne on Saturday evening.

Mrs Barton said: “This is a sad end to the situation, I offer sincere condolences to the family of the bereaved lady.

“There was certainly a valiant rescue operation to save the lady from the Lough, I commend those who made the efforts and in many cases put their own lives at risk, including members of the public and emergency services.”
