IT'S a bar you would usually find in the more trendier districts of Greater Manchester.

So it makes a refreshing change that it is situated in an ordinary street where everyone can enjoy drinking in the atmosphere.

Bunbury's in Chorley Old Road has been shortlisted for a Manchester Food and Drink Festival Award — the only outlet in Bolton to be put forward for the award.

The craft ale bar, reminiscent of a late Victorian gentleman's club, serves up distinctive ales and beers as well as a selection of gins and ciders.

The family-run bar, which sits in the row of a shops, has been opened for four years, after Darryl decided to develop his passion for good beer and ale, and now sources the best and the more unusual beers that the UK and world has to offer.

Darryl's wife Sarah said: "We found out on Twitter the bar had been nominated and have since found who nominated us: it was a food and drink journalist from Manchester.

"Darryl rang me, it was a real shock, I was really elated because of the recognition."

She added: "A lot of people said you would not sell craft beer on Chorley Old Road, loads of people said that.

"A blogger wrote saying you could never imagine that you could sell what Darryl sells here — rare, quirky off-the-wall beers. Now we have people travelling from all over."

Sarah said the bar — which also boasts a library — attracts people from all backgrounds.

" I remember my parents saying a pub was the hub of the community. And I just thought I wanted to recreate that which I think we have, especially with all the extra stuff that we do."

Darryl, said: "We have beers which are very unusual, very rare, we have had beers that have been brewed once and never been brewed again.I felt very emotional when I heard we had been nominated. You work hard and when someone recognises what you have done it does mean something." People can now cast their vote for the bar by visit http://foodanddrinkfestival.com/awards/
