Specialist detectives have spent the past two weeks interviewing some of the alleged victims of historic sexual abuse in Fermanagh.
It’s understood the interviews have taken place in Enniskillen and Omagh police stations.
The alleged victims have previously featured in this newspaper as part of our long-running series examining into child sex abuse in which they told their stories.
It’s believed detectives working as part of a dedicated team set up in the wake of our coverage will soon speak to some of the people who have had allegations levelled against them.
However, a spokeswoman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said the organisation could not provide an update on the major investigation.
Over 30 alleged victims have contacted this newspaper since March and have made allegations against over 50 men.
One of the alleged victims who recently spoke with police praised officers for the way in which he was dealt with, telling this newspaper: “They could not have made me feel more comfortable”.
It follows previous allegations by several alleged victims of apparent inaction by the RUC and PSNI when some of these cases were first reported.
Criticism of the police investigation sparked a protest recently outside Enniskillen PSNI station and Enniskillen Courthouse in which several people, holding placards and copies of this newspaper, called for “justice for the victims”.
