Hundreds of young people across Fermanagh received their A-Level results last Thursday (August 15) marking the next chapter of their lives.

There was a slight increase in those awarded the top grade, with 8.8 per cent of entries receiving an A* Grade, up 0.6 percentage points from 2018. A* - A Grade increased 0.5 percentage points to 30.9 per cent. The A* - E pass rate remained stable with a 0.1 percentage point increase to 98.3 per cent. It was noted that the rise at the A* Grade has been mainly driven by an increase in female outcomes, up 1.2 percentage points. Grade A also increased by 1.4 percentage points for females. Male outcomes decreased slightly, with A* Grade down 0.1 percentage points and Grade A down 0.6 percentage points.

Commenting on this summer’s GCE results, Justin Edwards, Chief Executive of the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) said: “Congratulations to all those receiving their A Level results this morning. The results are a testament to the hard work and dedication shown by students over the past two years. Northern Ireland students continue to perform well, with increases across all grades. There was a slight increase in those receiving the A* Grade this year."

He added: "Once again students in Northern Ireland have performed well. We are delighted for the students and all those that helped them achieve their results.”

DEVENISH COLLEGE

Devenish College is once again delighted to record a very pleasing set of results. Principal, Simon Mowbray, noted: “Our students have worked extremely hard over the last two years and should feel very proud of their dedication to their studies and the subsequent achievements. These results reflect the exceptional dedication, expertise and commitment of our staff and the significant support provided by their parents.”

The College were also delighted with the AS results which will "guarantee continued improvement next year."

FIVEMILETOWN COLLEGE

Last Thursday's results brought smiles to the faces of many Fivemiletown College Year 14 students, with almost all securing their first choice preferences at their preferred Universities and Colleges. Students have gained success across a range of academic and/or vocational qualifications. Principal Janice Allen congratulated all the students and expressed her thanks to the staff and parents who have helped to secure the pupils’ success. The College wishes all Year 14 pupils every success as they continue on to the next stage of their career pathways.

ST. FANCHEA'S COLLEGE

Commenting that the school community of St. Fanchea’s College are "very proud of the results" achieved by the girls, Principal Maurice Collins said: "Pupils have achieved their potential and have secured places in universities or in higher education courses. The results achieved reflect the hard work and commitment of the girls, the dedication and inspiration of staff and the support and encouragement of parents. We wish the girls continued success in their future pathways.”

ST. KEVIN'S COLLEGE

Students at St. Kevin’s College celebrated their "excellent" A-Level results last Thursday. This year’s results continue to build on the positive outcomes achieved last year. Over 69 per cent of students achieved three or more A*-C, with 100 per cent of students accomplishing two or more A*-E. The success of the students has ensured that a majority of them have gained their first-choice places at the country’s top universities.

Principal Gary Kelly remarked: "I would like to congratulate all our students on their success. I am very proud that St. Kevin’s students are able to pursue their talents and interests at university level in subjects as diverse as Archaeology, Politics, Criminology, Game Design, Forensic Science, Teaching, Nursing, Accounting, Radiography, Cinematic Arts and Commercial Advertising with Marketing."

He added: "These opportunities are the result of our outstanding teaching, pastoral care and career guidance. Our dedicated and hard-working students have also received great support from their parents."

ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE

The A-Level cohort of St Joseph’s College celebrated one of their best sets of A-Level results yet, with 91 per cent of pupils achieving three grades A*-C

Principal Mrs Palmer stated "We’ve seen a really positive set of results this year with a record number 55 per cent of students achieving three grades A*-A, showing that students at St Josephs are really flourishing and reaching their full potential.”

She added: “It’s a big day for everyone collecting their A-level results and I want to congratulate the students, as well as our fantastic teachers and school staff, for all their hard work. All of our students have been accepted onto their third level course of choice, and we wish our young men all the very best as they move onto the next chapter of their educational lives.”

SOUTH WEST COLLEGE

A number of students of South West College Enniskillen celebrated achieving top grades in Btec Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT (Software Development); which is equivalent to 3 A-Levels.

Congratulating the students on their performance, Programme Co-ordinator, Fiona Keenan, recognised the dedication and commitment of the students throughout the two years of their studies.

She said: “The students have worked extremely hard for their success and we wish them well as they progress to the next exciting chapter in their education. Indeed, we are delighted to report a 100 per cent success rate on the Extended Diploma and offer our congratulations and best wishes to all the students.”

ERNE INTEGRATED COLLEGE

The Year 14 students were thrilled on receipt of their Post 16 examination results this morning.

The entire Erne Integrated College community is delighted with their achievement and success. The results represent another record breaking year in the 25 year history of the school.

The Principal, Jimmy Jackson-Ware is immensely proud of all the Year 14 students who received their examination results today. Their achievement is the result of two years of dedication, commitment and hard work. They should justifiably bask in the warm rosy glow of success. Most students are going to university to study a wide variety of degree courses.

Mr Jackson-Ware said that Erne Integrated College is very much a family of parents, students and staff and by working as a supportive family they ensure that all students achieve their best.

ENNISKILLEN ROYAL GRAMMAR SCHOOL

Principal Elizabeth Armstrong noted the delight of the school community of Enniskillen Royal Grammar School that the class of 2019 are heading off to a diverse range of university pathways on the strength of their very good performance at A-Level across a range of 28 subjects.

She said: “These very pleasing results have enabled the vast majority of the year group to secure their place on their first choice course and they are a fitting tribute to the sterling work of our pupils with their teachers, underpinned by the support of their parents.”

Miss Armstrong added: “This year’s destinations include Economics at the University of Cambridge, Veterinary Medicine at Glasgow, Agricultural Technology, Electrical Engineering, Medicine and Law and Politics at Queens University, Belfast, Maths and Physics at the University of London, Law and Environmental Science at Newcastle, Industrial Design and Technology at Loughborough and Film Production at Bournemouth.”

MOUNT LOURDES GRAMMAR SCHOOL

The Board of Governors, Senior Leadership Team and staff of Mount Lourdes are delighted with their students’ success in producing an “outstanding” set of A-Level results.

The new principal of Mount Lourdes, Sinead Cullen said: “Students performed exceptionally well in all subjects and I congratulate each student on their individual success.”

She continued: “Our results reflect the flexible approach we have to meeting the learning and pastoral needs of all students and our broad and balanced curriculum offer.

“These results also reflect a high level of motivation from our students, the dedication and hard work of our teachers and the on-going support of our parents.”

Mrs. Cullen added: “As a school community we would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to our retiring principal Mrs. Maureen McKeever and thank her for the leadership and guidance she has shown to the students and staff of Mount Lourdes.”

ST. MICHAEL’S COLLEGE Speaking on behalf of the school community of St. Michael’s College, Principal Mark Henry commented how everyone is “absolutely delighted” with the results achieved by the students.

He said: “The boys have produced outstanding results, with 45 per cent of all grades awarded A* or A.”

He continued: “The boys continue to perform brilliantly in our range of vocational courses. For example, 14 of the 15 boys who studied BTEC Construction achieved a double distinction or better which is the equivalent of two A grades at A-Level.”

Mr. Henry noted his delight that the vast majority of his students have been placed in their chosen course at University., with many having secured places at some of the most prestigious universities in the UK and in Ireland. He said: “We wish them all continued success with their studies. I would like to thank the parents for all their support and our outstanding team of teachers for all their hard work in preparing the boys for their examinations,” Mr. Henry concluded.
