There was great success for Fermanagh’s musicians and performers at the 2019 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann which took place in Drogheda from August 11 to 18.
Every year, the All Ireland Fleadh provides a cultural meeting place for those who carry the great traditions of Irish music, song and dance in their hearts. This year was no exception as the streets of Drogheda were abuzz with over 500,000 people during the eight-day long event.
Following their success at the Ulster Fleadh, members of CCÉs from across Fermanagh competed at the prestigious event, with three talented local musicians receiving top accolades. Sean McAleer, a member of Irvinestown CCÉ came first in the under 12 Whistling category, taking the title of All Ireland Champion. Botha CCÉ member Julie-Ann McCaffrey took first place in the over 18 Ladies Singing in English and Blaithin Ni Mhaonile, a member of Newtownbutler CCÉ came first in the 12-15 Accompaniment category.
