Fermanagh Magistrates Court heard how a “row” with his girlfriend on a night in Bundoran caused a 32 year-old-man to get behind the wheel at 6am, fall asleep and subsequently crash the vechicle.

Christopher Leitch with an address of Ringford Crescent Belfast was travelling back to Belfast when the crash happened on the Brookeborough road. The defendant pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

A defence solicitor told the court that his client had been “socialising in Bundoran with his girlfriend when they had a row”.

The court heard that he had got up early the next morning to drive back to Belfast and had “momentarily dozed off” causing him the crash to occur. The defence solicitor said that Leitch was a van driver and losing his licence would have a detrimental effect on him.

District Judge Michael Ranaghan disqualified Leitch from driving for 12 months and fined him £175.
