Her family should be planning for Christmas, instead Donna (Dodie) Smith’s four children had to plan for her funeral following the tragic death of the much loved Lisnaskea woman.

“It was a tragic accident at home. Mum had a fall on the stairs,” her daughter Hayley told The Impartial Reporter.

The accident took place on Saturday November 9 with Dodie taken to hospital where she passed away on Tuesday. Dodie’s ex-husband Jim Smith said the family were in a state of shock.

“It is absolutely tragic. You just never know what is around the corner. She was just a completely devoted mother and did everything for her kids.”

Hayley spoke of her mum’s popularity in the community.

“Everyone knew her, and everyone liked her. It is devastating what has happened. But we want to thank everyone for the support that they have shown, for their prayers and their condolences,” she said.

The daughter of the late Kevin Curran, Dodie is survived by her mother Mary, children, Hayley (25), Kyle (16), Emily (11) and Bella (10), her ex-husband, Jim and her grandson Archie as well as a large circle of brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles.

Dodie's funeral mass was held at Holy Cross Church, Lisnaskea on Friday with the burial taking place after in the adjoining cemetery. Dodie was buried with her father and sister, who died as a baby.

Funeral arrangements were by Swift and McCaffrey Funeral Directors.
