After a lenghty wait, Sinn Féin's Michelle Gildernew was returned as MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone this morning (Friday).

It took a recount to finally confirm the result as Mrs.Gildernew held on to her seat from the threat of Tom Eilliott (UUP) by just 57 votes.

Always a tight constituency, Mrs.Gildernew said she was delighted to get over the line and that the work starts immediately.

She paid tribute to the other four candidates, in particular Mr.Elliott, for the way they campaigned during the election and thanked all her staff and those who voted for her during her acceptance speech.

Mr. Elliott, in his speech, also thanked those who voted for him and said he would continue to be an activist in the community even though he was not elected.

He also thanked Nationalist voters who supported him and invited him into their houses during the campaign and said it was a step in the right direction that they put their faith in him.

More reaction and interviews to follow.
