The votes have now been counted in the prestigious ComicScene Awards 2019, run by ComicScene Magazine, and the Enniskillen ComicFest has won the Best Comic Con Or Event category. Out of all of the Comic Conventions in the UK and Ireland, Enniskillen ComicFest has been voted the very best - a huge honour for the dedicated team of comics enthusiasts who work very hard to stage the event every year. Over 30,000 votes were cast across the various categories over the past two months with the Enniskillen ComicFest up against four other very big UK Conventions in the Best Comic Con Or Event category.

Organiser Paul Trimble said: “We’re absolutely delighted with this news. The popularity of the Enniskillen ComicFest has grown and grown and this really puts us on the map. The town has really embraced ComicFest and the benefits that it brings every year. We’d like to thank the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Fermanagh Lakeland Tourism, Enniskillen BID, Libraries NI and Blakes of the Hollow for all their support.”

The Enniskillen ComicFest was launched back in May 2016 by a dedicated group of local comics fans with the intention of bringing the biggest names in comics to Enniskillen for a two day event to showcase comic art, character design and storytelling. The original aim was to provide workshops and tutorials for local schools on the Friday, to allow students to have direct contact with writers and artists who have worked on comics, storyboarding and game design while the Saturday would be open to the public allowing comics fans and the general public to have access to guests for autographs and sketches as well as allowing anyone hoping for a career in comics to get feedback and network with creators who have already experience in the industry. That 2016 show was a huge success and drew comics fans from all over Ireland to Enniskillen for the weekend. Since then the Enniskillen ComicFest has grown and grown with the schools’ programme becoming more popular and more and more fans visiting Enniskillen from across the UK, France, the USA and Canada, bringing a lot of visitors to the town for the weekend, benefiting local business. A major US publisher chose Enniskillen to launch their new graphic novel this year and small press publishers have scheduled their new releases for ComicFest each year, making the show a highlight in the comics calendar.
