Organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council as part of their Irish language events programme, Céilí na mBunscoileanna/Primary Schools’ Céilí took place recently in St. Macartin’s Cathedral Hall, Enniskillen.
Now in it fifth year, the annual event saw 150 children from six schools across Fermanagh take part. The schoolchildren spent two months learning six traditional dances which they performed at the Céilí. As well as dancing, each school performed a party piece as part of the two-hour event.
Primary Schools that took part this year included St. Joseph’s, Ederney; St. Ninnidh’s, Derrylin; St Patrick’s, Derrygonnelly; St. Columba’s, Belcoo; St. Joseph’s, Donagh; and St. Naille’s, Kinawley.
Live music for the Céilí was provided by Fermanagh traditional musicians, Jim McGrath, Derrygonnelly on the accordion and Pat McManus, Derrylin playing the fiddle.
