Parts of Enniskillen were brought to a near stand still on both Monday and Tuesday evening with a fault in the traffic lights at Queen St thought to be responsible for the delays.

Traffic was queued back to the Queen Elizabeth Road with 5pm to 6pm particularly busy. Responding to a story shared via the Impartial Reporter Facebook page readers reported that traffic lights were staying red for a much longer time than usual.

On the NI Direct website a fault in the traffic light system was reported on Monday evening but at the time of going to press there was no update as to its status. On the website itself it states: “This enquiry has been received by DFI Roads Traffic Section and will be dealt with in due course. Thank you for reporting the issue. Please Note - Due to the current budgetary shortfall for routine maintenance work, we must prioritise repair work to initially target those areas posing the greatest risk to the public. We would therefore ask everyone for their patience while we continue to make progress with the various outstanding repairs.”

The Department of Infrastructure was contacted and asked to make a comment on the issue but at the time of going to press no response was received.
