Lifeboat crew from Carrybridge RNLI assisted one person after their boat broke down whilst out on Lough Erne on Friday evening.

Responding to a call at 5.53pm on Friday, January 24, Carrybridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat, with a volunteer lifeboat crew of Douglas Euan and Kay Richards, was launched to a boat with one person on board which had developed engine difficulties approximately one mile south of Share Discovery Village, Lisnaskea. The crew reported that winds were southerly, Force 2 and visibility was poor with overcast conditions.

A spokesman for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution stated: "The lifeboat arrived with the casualty vessel which had drifted close to an island. The volunteer crew checked the wellbeing of the passenger on the casualty boat and found they were okay."

He added: "With the owner’s permission a tow was established with the casualty vessel and the boat was then towed back to Derryadd public jetty."

Speaking following the call out, Stephen Scott, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Carrybridge RNLI advised all boat users: ‘‘At this time of year when there isn’t much boat movement on the water it is especially important before setting out to plan your journey, have the relevant charts required, lifejackets for all on board and a means of calling for assistance if you find yourself in trouble. If you see someone in trouble on the water or are in difficulties yourself the number to dial is: 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.’’
