Libraries in Enniskillen and Fivemiletown will receive a "multi-million facelift", First Minister Arlene Foster has said.

Jim O’Hagan, Libraries NI Chief Executive, accompanied the Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA during a visit to Enniskillen Library last week.

“We were very grateful for this opportunity to discuss our plans and we value Mrs. Foster’s ongoing support for the work of libraries and, in particular those libraries in rural communities. Libraries are important places for people to connect with information, IT, reading and support and in many communities it is an essential trusted, welcoming venue for local customers," he said.

In a statement after her visit, Mrs. Foster said libraries are "an important part of the community".

"They help combat loneliness, provide skills for people and in some instances; it is a safe haven for study time or relaxation. We need libraries that are fit for purpose, welcoming and encourage footfall. That is why I am delighted that the libraries in Enniskillen and Fivemiletown will receive a multi-million facelift.

"I know first hand the difference a new library can impact upon the community. For example, Lisnaskea has been a real success story. Investment is key and makes a huge difference. Plans for the new library in Enniskillen are exciting and will transform the current site. I will be working with my Executive colleagues to ensure Enniskillen and Fivemiletown receive up-to-date facilities as soon as possible," she said.
