Siobhan Currie, Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has said that the St Patrick's Day parade is still to go ahead as planned in Enniskillen.
In a statement issued today (Monday) she said: "As of 4.30 pm on Monday 9 March 2020, there has been no advice from the PHA to restrict mass gatherings and as such the St Patrick’s Day parades in Omagh and Enniskillen are going ahead as planned. However this will be kept under review."
In the Republic of Ireland a number of parades have been cancelled including those in Dublin, Cork and Waterford cities, along with a number of towns following concerns over the coronavirus.
Chairperson Currie in her statement stated: "I would like to reassure all residents that Fermanagh and Omagh District Council continues to monitor and review the situation with regard to the coronavirus, COVID-19, and will continue to act in accordance with any advice provided by the Public Health Agency (PHA). Given our border proximity, residents may also wish to access updates provided by the Health Service Executive should they be travelling to the South. I understand that the PHA and HSE continue to communicate on a regular basis regarding COVID-19," before conculding: "I would urge all residents to follow the advice issued by the Public Health Agency in relation to hygiene and to visit the PHA website at https://www.publichealth.hscni.net/news/covid-19-coronavirus for further guidance."
