On February 11, 1985, Kilmacormick Community Association opened the door to what was to become the only remaining community-based playgroup in Enniskillen with an intake of 12 children. Thirty-five years on, the playgroup’s doors opened again to celebrate an event that brought together both the original children and those currently attending.

In her welcome the current chairwoman thanked everyone for helping the group celebrate this milestone and remarked that the attendance at the celebratory event reflected the high esteem in which the playgroup is held. Now registered for 24 places, the playgroup is much sought after and parents were acknowledged for the trust placed in the staff over the year as without the children attending, the need for the group would not exist. Acknowledging the support of the funders, social services and the community, this outstanding achievement would not have been possible and hopefully will continue for future years.

In response Siobhán Currie, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council thanked the group for their work over 35 years and congratulated everyone concerned for this tremendous achievement. She reflected on her personal involvement with the area and commented that starting in the playgroup leads on to youngsters taking part in many additional projects being held within the Kilmacormick Resource Centre programmes.

All those attending the event were delighted at the opportunity to view the many photos on display which tell the story of Kilmacormick Playgroup through the hundreds of smiling faces, providing a great trip down memory lane.

The playgroup would like to thank everyone involved in helping celebrate this wonderful achievement, in particular Margaret O’Hara and her team for providing the beautiful array of food which was enjoyed by everyone both young and old.
