Children at the Enniskillen Model Primary School are spreading cheer by sending pictures and messages to the residents of The Graan Nursing Home who are currently in isolation.

Inspired by Sandy Blair, a mother of P3 pupil James at the school, children of all ages created pictures, messages and poems to be delivered to the nursing home.

Janice Murray, a teacher at the Enniskillen Model Primary School said: “Sandy Blair, her auntie is in The Graan and obviously now that they aren’t allowed to go and visit, she thought it would be a lovely idea to brighten up the elderly residents’ day by sending wee pictures or wee cards.”

Mrs. Murray continued: “Sandy had mentioned to Mr. Glass and myself and then we said to the class teachers and spoke to the children.

“In response they made up wee poems and wrote wee letters to the people. There was such a big response.

“It’s just something she thought the children could do, whether they drew a wee picture to cheer someone up and brighten their day because it can be very lonely being by themselves, to let them know that somebody does care.

There was one wee girl in P6 she had made up a beautiful poem and written a letter, which I thought was lovely, I cried myself when I read it,” said Mrs. Murray.

She concluded: “It’s just lovely that children have that empathy.”
