The sound of clapping and cheering rung out across Fermanagh as many households stood on their doorsteps at 8pm on Thursday, March 26 to show their appreciation of the efforts of the NHS and care workers in treating those affected by Covid-19.

It was an initiative that took place throughout the UK which not only showed support for key workers in this trying time, but also brought a feeling of togetherness to a nation currently in isolation.

In Enniskillen members of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service joined in the salute whilst practising social distancing. Outside the Emergency Department of the South West Acute Hospital a police officer showed her appreciation by applauding.

In Irvinestown fireworks were set off in honour of the NHS whilst other members of the public showed their appreciation by sharing photographs and videos via social media.
