As society deals with the hurdles and anxieties that Covid-19 brings one Fermanagh carer has shared her "rainbow of inspiration" in the shape of Adam Pennell.

Kyra McCutcheon met Adam 10 years ago through her husband Lee, who is Adam's cousin. Adam has a genetic condition and requires 24 hours car and is wheelchair bound. Kyra explains that Adam's only form of communication is through his eyes, looking up for yes and down for no. Adam is currently in isolation with his dad Harold and family dog Finlay and Kyra explains that it is a "privilege" to help care for Adam and that she feels "blessed".

"I have been able to spend more quality time with my dear friend in a caring capacity. Adam has taught me about resilience, determination and enjoying every day to the full. He keeps me entertained and has helped me to maintain a routine during a time when many might be finding staying at home claustrophobic," she explains before adding; "He has the quickest mind and misses nothing. It has been wonderful being part of Adam's amazing care team, which includes family, friends, nurses and Care Plus staff, who ensure Adam is happy, healthy and has his needs met around the clock. However, Adam gives us all so much more in return."

Kyra explains that "anyone who has been fortunate enough to meet Adam will know how quick witted, social and fun loving he is". As a past pupil of Lisbellaw Primary School and the Integrated College, and more recently attending The Drumcoo Centre and Safe Haven, Adam is known to many and loved by everyone.

"He has dealt with isolation brilliantly and with such a positive attitude even though he is missing his groups, our road trips and our Sunday get togethers at Fermanagh Christian Fellowship," Kyra explains.

"Adam and I have been able to fill our days easily with walks in the countryside, arts and crafts, baking, gardening, car washing, watching FCF online every Sunday and even grooming his dog Finley. Adam keeps a close eye as he supervises my work and his laugh is always timed perfectly. We have been creating rainbows for the windows, thumb print pictures as presents for loved ones and we recently got 'Thank You NHS' t-shirts that Adam wears with pride when clapping for Key Workers and during our walks."
