Young musicians are being supported by the Education Authority’s Music Service tutors, to continue learning and enjoying music at home.
While face-to-face sessions have been paused, due to Covid-19, tutors have been offering advice on the telephone, signposting to online resources, and providing pre-recorded video tutorials.
Work is currently underway to deliver more online learning options, after summer.
The Western Area Group, made up of young musicians from areas including Enniskillen, Omagh, Strabane, Derry/Londonderry and Limavady, usually take part in regular rehearsals together, twice a month, and have an end of year concert.
However, this has not been possible, due to the pandemic.
In place of their end of year concert, with the help of their parents sharing home-videos of the young musicians practising, a virtual performance of ‘Thank You for the Music’, made famous by Abba, was created and features young musicians playing a range of orchestral instruments.
