FERMANAGH trade unionists are hosting a rally this weekend in solidarity with sacked IKEA worker and union rep Richie Venton and Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW) members in IKEA.
From 1pm to 1.45pm on Saturday, September 12, a socially-distanced rally in conjunction with Fermanagh Council of Trades Unions will take place at the Diamond, Enniskillen with the aim of showing solidarity for Maguiresbridge-born trade unionist Mr. Venton, who was sacked by his employers, IKEA, in disputes over workers’ safety from the coronavirus, it has been claimed.
A campaign entitled ‘Reinstate Richie Venton’ was launched by workers furious at the “victimisation” and sacking of Mr. Venton, an elected USDAW shop steward and convenor in IKEA Glasgow.
A petition created as part of the campaign has received thousands of signatures of support.
