IT HAS emerged a sitting member of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council was one of two people arrested as part of an investigation into suspected fraud.

Councillor Bernice Swift (51) an Independent member, was detained on Monday along with a male (43) in the Derrygonnelly area of Fermanagh.

Both were subsequently later released on bail.

Enquiries are ongoing and there are currently no further details on what the fraud investigation allegedly relates to.

When contacted by The Impartial Reporter, Councillor Swift said: "I cannot comment on any alleged arrests. There remains an ongoing investigation."
