A 25-year-old man was over twice the legal limit to drive when he was stopped by police in Enniskillen, a court has heard.

David Mills with an address of Ringfort Place, Enniskillen was stopped by police on April 10 following a report of a possible drink driver.

At around 7.10pm a report was made of a driver of a black Vauxhall Zafira being intoxicated on the Sligo Road.

Police located the car and signalled the vehicle to stop. When officers spoke with the driver who was identified as the defendant they detected a smell of intoxicating liquor and also noticed an unopened bottle of WKD in the the passenger footwell. A preliminary breath test was conducted which Mills failed. He was subsequently arrested and taken to Omagh Custody Suite where he gave an evidential reading of 95mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Mills' solicitor, Garry Smyth said that his client was presently subject to a disqualification and that this incident would trigger a lengthy ban but asked the court to give him credit for his plea and cooperating fully with police.

He added that at that particular stage in his life Mills was having issues and said he was seeking professional assistance in relation to them.

District Judge Steven Keown said if this happened again it would be the third time in quick succession and if it happened again in the near future it would be dealt with by looking at possible alternatives to custody.

Judge Keown also added that there was concern of the danger Mills poses on the road if he continued to drink and drive.

The 25 year old was disqualified for three years and fined £300.
