DESPITE the announcement of closures of many Sainsbury’s and Argos stores at the start of November, there’s good news for Enniskillen as the Argos store located at Erneside Shopping Centre is to remain open.
Sainsbury’s, which owns Argos, plans to close 120 standalone stores – part of its strategy to shut 420 standalone stores in the next three and a half years.
Enniskillen’s Argos is one of 15 standalone stores in Northern Ireland, while there are also five outlets based inside Sainsbury’s 13 stores across the North.
The Enniskillen store reopened after the initial lockdown in March, and a Sainsbury’s spokesperson confirmed to The Impartial Reporter that: “Any standalone Argos store which has not reopened since March will remain closed permanently. We have not confirmed any other closures at this stage.
“Many of the Argos colleagues affected redeployed to help in other Argos stores and busy Sainsbury’s supermarkets, and they will continue to do so during the consultation process.
“We will do everything possible to find them an alternative role, and have an excellent track record in doing so.”
