AFTER a difficult number of weeks with rising Covid-19 cases in Fermanagh and Omagh, the latest figures have shown that numbers are falling as the first month of 2021 draws to a close.

Comparing the rate of positive cases per 100k people in the area from Wednesday, January 6’s update from the Department of Health with yesterday’s Wednesday, January 27 update, the rate has dropped from 535 to 174.6.

The number of cases in the seven days leading up to January 6 was 625, compared to the current seven-day number, 204.

Yesterday’s update from the Department showed 26 people tested positive for the virus; however, there were no deaths recorded in the local Council area. The total number of cases sits at 5,207, while deaths remain at 73.

Breaking down Fermanagh by postal district from January 18-24 shows that BT92 had 35 positive cases, BT74 had 36, BT94 had 17 and BT93 had 18 positive cases.

Looking at the positive cases from the last week by age, there were 32 cases in people aged 19 and under; 61 in those aged between 20 and 39; 75 between 40 and 59; 27 between 60 and 79, and nine aged 80 and over.

Across Northern Ireland, 527 people tested positive while 16 deaths were recorded. The number of individuals who tested positive over the last seven days stands at 4,246, compared to 12,144 in the January 6 report.

The respective totals are now at 101,818 positive cases and 1,779 deaths; 12 of the deaths occurred in the past 24 hours, with four being reported outside the current reporting period.
