AN INJURED walker was rescued from Cuilcagh Mountain and taken to hospital by helicopter last Sunday, June 13.

Emergency services including North West Mountain Rescue Team (NWMRT), Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, the National Ambulance Service, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, and the Irish Coastguard attended the incident following a call-out on Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the NWMRT said: "At 4.17pm the team received a tasking from the PSNI to assist an injured walker on Cuilcagh Mountain, [in an area] commonly known as 'the Stairway to Heaven'.

"On arrival, the casualty had been treated by members of Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, and the National Ambulance Service then [was then] helped into a stretcher by team members, ready for quick extraction off the mountain by Irish Coastguard helicopter Rescue 118.

"Crews from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were also on the scene. The casualty was then transferred to hospital with the helicopter crew."

Some 16 NWMRT team members responded to the call-out, with the team stood down at 5pm.

"After such a great team effort from all agencies on this incident, we all wish the casualty a speedy recovery," added the NWMRT spokesperson.
