AN ACTOR was rushed to hospital on Saturday evening after a ‘technical difficulty’ with a set at the Ardhowen theatre led the actor to fall.

The incident occurred during the open-air production of William Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, which was hosted by Heartbreak Productions at the Enniskillen theatre.

An unspecified technical difficulty led Caitlin Wood to fall at the set, that was made of scaffolding poles and polystyrene shaped rocks.

A spokeswoman from Heartbreak Productions said: “Unfortunately, during the open-air performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Ardhowen Theatre on Saturday July 10, a technical difficulty with an element of the set resulted in one of the actors falling.

“The show was stopped and, as a precaution, the actor was taken to the South-West Acute Hospital (SWAH). Following scans, she was discharged later that evening and has continued with the tour of this show.

“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will contact ticketholders attending the show and arrange refunds.”

A doctor in the audience aided Ms. Wood until an ambulance arrived. It was confirmed to this newspaper that she was back performing with the group on Tuesday.

A spokesperson from the Council said: “During the open-air performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Heartbreak Productions at the Ardhowen on Saturday, July 10, a technical difficulty with an element of the set resulted in one of the actors falling.

“The set was subject to a full risk assessment by the touring company, Heartbreak Productions, who are responsible for all aspects of the staging of the show. The performance used a number of items of a set and props, but not a stage.”

“The show was stopped and, as a precaution, the actor was taken to the SWAH. Following scans, she was discharged on Sunday, July 11, and has continued with the tour of this show.

“The incident will be subject to a full internal investigation and the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland will be notified in accordance with statutory obligations.”

Confirming the incident, the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said: “NIAS received a 999 call at 7.01pm on Saturday, July 10 following reports of an incident in the Dublin Road area of Enniskillen.

“NIAS despatched one emergency crew to the scene. Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken to the SWAH by ambulance.”
