Fermanagh is about to have its first Irish language pre-school, to be housed in the grounds of Lisnaskea Emmet’s GAA club.
An architect will be in consultation with the steering committee of the new school this week to undertake some work on the site, and once this has been completed the committee will take delivery of the mobile which will provide the school building.
A public information meeting was well attended last week, hosted by Father Joe McVeigh in a bilingual format, to discuss the provision of an Irish language pre-school.
Hoping to accomodate up to 12 pupils, Naiscoil an Traonaigh, named after the Corncrake, is hoping to be up and running by September this year. Six children have been booked into the school, and the steering committee point out that there are still places available.
The speakers at last week’s meeting, that was held in the Doncarragh Hotel, included Peadar MacMuiris, of Comhairle na Gaelscolaiochta, and Peter Quinn, the former GAA President and a Gaeilgeoir (an Irish language speaker).
