The offices of the betting firm set up by former Border billionaire Seán Quinn were searched in March of this year by An Garda Síochána as part of an investigation.

The Ballyconnell offices of the betting firm, QuinnBet – which was set up in August, 2017 – were searched as well as the offices of the businesses’ accountancy firm.

Speaking to The Sunday Independent, Mr. Quinn’s son-in-law, Stephen Kelly, who serves as Managing Director of the betting firm, confirmed the search by gardai.

He said: “I confirm that a search was conduced of our business premise and accountant’s firm in March, and we fully co-operated.

“We have not been informed what the matter relates to; however, we are satisfied that it does not relate to the licensed business of QuinnBet, and have not heard anything further since.”

Séan Quinn is no longer involved with the QuinnBet company. He and his son, Séan Jnr, were both Directors of Belbridge Consultancy, the company which owns QuinnBet, until last year.

His youngest daughter, Brenda, partly owns the company. She had formerly owned the Slieve Russell hotel after being gifted the property as a child.
