The Lough Erne Landscape Partnership as part of Festival Lough Erne are hosting the Lough Erne Heritage Festival at Enniskillen Castle Museum on Saturday, September 18 from 10am to 4pm. Celebrating the skills of the past that were once so familiar in the region, enjoy demonstrations of many traditional crafts and techniques and have the opportunity to get involved and learn some skills.

This event will celebrate a wide variety of heritage skills, with expert demonstrations including wool spinning, rush craft, thatching, blacksmithing, soda bread making and many more. Our expert crafters will bring to life these skills which were so popular in bygone days. Once you have watched the master crafts men and women at work you will also have the opportunity to try some of the craft techniques including straw craft, pottery, and willow weaving. Join the Mummers and play some traditional outdoor games whilst enjoying the entertainment within the courtyard. Throughout the day the castle will be filled with storytelling, traditional dance and music by Sean Magee, Fermanagh School of Art, and Fermanagh Concert Band and Joe the Baker will be demonstrating the art of breadmaking.

Learn from Lough Erne Heritage about the traditional boats once common sights on Lough Erne and view a restored 85-year-old yacht. Take to the waters with Row the Erne, and experience rowing a traditional hand built Menapian currach. (Pre-booking essential for this activity).

Entry on the day is free and LELP are encouraging the public to join them for this exciting, unique, and fun filled day. For further information visit the LELP website (www.lelp.org.uk) or contact info@lelp.org.uk
