30 swimmers took on the challenge of swimming around Castle Island, Enniskillen on Sunday (September 12) for the Lough Erne Charity Swim in aid of the local RNLI.

The event was marshalled and organised by adventure activity provider Blue Green Yonder as part of Festival Lough Erne.

30 swimmers were registered for the event both local and from neighbouring counties. The weather on the day was good, making conditions favourable for the 750m swim around the island.

Around 15 people assisted with safety on the day, some on stand up paddle boards and kayaks. Representatives from Swim Ulster gave the swimmers a safety briefing before they took off.

The first swimmer home was Brendan Goodrich, in a time of 16 minutes and 19 seconds. Julie McGuigan was second home, and the first lady, in a time of 19 minutes and 30 seconds. All who participated in the event completed the loop of the island.

Trevor Foster of Blue Green Yonder commented on the success of the event. “[It was] great to see such a fantastic turnout for the Festival Lough Erne Charity swim in aid of our local RNLI Heros,” he said, going on to congratulate the swimmers and thank the volunteers who helped keep everyone safe on the day.

Festival Lough Erne continues this weekend with a range of events on and around Lough Erne.
