A FERMANAGH boy has been crowned a World Maths Day Champion.

Luke McKeever (8), from Kesh Primary School, was awarded his prize last Thursday.

Speaking to The Impartial Reporter, Ms. Woods, Year 5 teacher at Kesh PS, said: "Luke qualified as one of the top four students in our region on the World Maths Day Challenge, where he had to compete online against other children in our selected region, which included Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East, Africa and America.

"The challenge involved typing in answers to mathematical calculations in the quickest possible time, whilst also achieving the highest number of correct answers, in online live games.

"After this success, he then had to take part in the Champion Challenge on May 28 against three other regional finalists in an online Zoom [meetings] competition.

"Luke was very impressive and secured first place, achieving the most correct mathematical questions in the allocated time.

"This now makes Luke the World Maths Day Champion for Year 4, 2021 in the region.

"We are very proud of this amazing achievement!"
