Local MLAs and schoolchildren had an ‘ice’ day at the opening of Fermanagh’s first indoor ice rink at Share Discovery Village.

Located just outside Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh the recently installed 19 x 9m Swiss made, synthetic rink is the latest addition to Share’s extensive portfolio of activities.

The initiative was officially launched on Friday, October 22 by long serving Share Discovery Village volunteers Barry Teague and Brian Whittingdale along with local MLA representatives Deborah Erskine, Jemma Dolan and Áine Murphy, as well as school groups from Bunscoil an Traonaigh, Lisnaskea and Aghadrumsee Primary School.

Share Village on Ice is available for those visiting for Hallowe’en to book.

Share is already the largest residential activity centre in Northern Ireland and is fully accessible. In keeping with this ethos the ice rink is also accessible and the surface is identical to a frozen surface, but is a much more eco-friendly option.

Ahead of the launch Share Discovery Village CEO Darragh Collins said: “Ice skating seems to be a very popular activity in the lead up to Christmas so people are very positive about it. It’s great to have the facility close by and we’ve had a lot of bookings from locals and those in surrounding Border counties.

“We have also had interest from schools and youth groups. It’s a huge addition to the area and a massive project for Share Discovery Village, so we’re hoping everybody gets out behind us and supports it.”

The rink will be open until at least December 19 and is available to book now via Share’s website www.sharevillage.org
