In the lead up to Hallowe’en, Jones Memorial Primary School opened up its gates to the local community, inviting all ages to experience it’s spooktacular pumpkin trail.

Organised by school staff and parents support group, the interactive trail was designed as a child friendly event to celebrate the autumn season.

“It was really to encourage people in our local community to come and visit our school, and really we were just aware that with the pandemic there hadn’t been a lot on within the area so we just wanted to provide an event,” said Jones Memorial Primary School Teacher Helen Graham.

Pupils of the Enniskillen primary school were involved in the preparation of the trail, with each class providing a unique scarecrow design to be put on display.

Local farmer Noel Reilly also provided the school with an old tractor, which was used as part of the trail.

“We put a scarecrow on the tractor and it was just a bit of a spectacle for people to see as well,” said Mrs. Graham.

Along with the scarecrows, the trail featured a scavenger hunt, pumpkin soup station and a pumpkin-themed craft activity.

“Then we had Winnie the Witch there to read some Hallowe’en stories and sing some songs,” said Mrs. Graham.

Commenting that the school was “very encouraged by the people who came”, Mrs. Graham added: “It was brilliant. Everyone really enjoyed it and we had a lot of positive comments. We were very happy with it.”
