Two pupils from St. Mary’s Primary School, Tempo, are among five young people from across the island of Ireland under 14 who have been shortlisted for awards in the primary and secondary school categories of the SeaCat Irish National Poetry Competition, in association with Poetry Ireland.

Aidan Breen (9) and Paul McDonald (8) reached the shortlist after more than 1,500 entries were submitted to the primary and secondary school categories

The shortlist was compiled by judges and renowned poets Eavan Boland, Michael Longley and Cathal O’Searcaigh.

The winning primary and secondary entry will be presented with a cash prize of £500 and £250, respectively along with £1,000 for their school library by President Mary McAleese.
