A record number of Covid-19 tests took place in Fermanagh and Omagh either side of Christmas according to figures revealed today by the Department of Health.

The largest number of tests completed in the district over the festive period were completed on December 27 (Monday) with 2,587 tests completed in the district. Of those 2,587 tests, 628 were positive, the highest number of positive tests recorded in the district since the pandemic began.

Several sources have estimated to The Impartial Reporter that on one day  1,200 of these tests took place at the Enniskillen Covid test centre at St. Angelo Airport.

The data comprises the number of laboratory tests completed across all settings including the test centre at St.Angelo Airport.

It appears that the positive cases rose in the district on the lead up to Christmas Day and peaked on Decemember 27 and are now slowly falling.

On December 23, 2,392 tests were completed at testing centres in Fermanagh and Omagh, a total of 292 were positive.

On Christmas Eve 1,661 tests were completed with 296 individuals testing positive. Despite reduced opening hours, 937 tests were completed on Christmas Day across Fermanagh and Omagh with 201 individuals testing positive. Higher figures were recorded on Boxing Day with 1,689 tests completed in the district and 227 individuals testing positive.

On December 28 (Tuesday) with 2,439 individuals testing across the district and 591 positive cases recorded. Yesterday (Wednesday) 1,091 tests were completed with 108 individuals testing positive.

Today’s figures show that in the past 24 hours, 413 individuals across the district tested positive for Coronavirus, for the same time period across Northern Ireland there were 4,701 positive cases of Coronavirus recorded.
