Parking has been majorly impacted in Enniskillen town centre as a result of the Public Realm Scheme, this newspaper can confirm, with free all-day on-street parking now a reality in some parts of the town centre, prompting a parking freeforall throughout the day.

Following the suspension of parking limits, owing to the ongoing Public Realm Scheme, drivers in some parts of Enniskillen town centre can now park their car all day without paying a penny or facing a fine, with the Department of Infrastructure temporarily waiving rules in some spots in response to the ongoing works in the town centre.

Queries were raised by this newspaper to the Department of Infrastructure as a pattern began to emerge in the town centre of cars being freely parked all day at some streets with no sign of a fine.

In response, a Department spokesperson confirmed that there had been an impact on time-limited free parking in Enniskillen.

The spokesperson said: “The limited waiting restrictions in Enniskillen have not been suspended, except those affected by the Public Realm works.

“Traffic attendants continue to patrol the Enniskillen town area, including the Council-charged car parks, Monday to Saturday, from 8.30am to 6pm, and take enforcement action against any vehicle detected parking in contravention of the restrictions.”

However, traffic attendants are unable to enforce penalties on the improper use of disabled parking bays or loading bays if they are impacted by the Public Realm Scheme.

The Department spokesperson advised: “Traffic attendants continue to enforce on-street disabled bays and loading bays restrictions, except those affected by the Public Realm works.”

When asked when the one-hour limited waiting restrictions in Enniskillen will be reinforced, the Department spokesperson said: “The limited waiting restrictions in Enniskillen have not been suspended, except those affected by the Public Realm works.”
