There was a great party atmosphere in Rosslea over the weekend as crowds of Traditional music enthusiasts of all ages came out to support the Fermanagh Fleadh 2022, hosted by Roslea CCÉ.

The Fleadh weekend officially opened with a concert at the Community Centre on Friday, June 12 featuring Gary Lynch as MC and a great line up of local musical talent including Gary Curley from Boho who played alongside the McKee Brothers and Ronan Warnock, while Enniskillen singer and musician Aoife Cathcart was joined on stage by family and friends including her sister Eimear Cathcart.

Knockmore Ceili Band also performed at the opening concert.

"Knockmore Ceili Band got back together just for the concert for us, and they were absolutely phenomenal. It was great to see them back together," Fermanagh CCÉ county chair Fiona Crudden told The Impartial Reporter, adding that the band had a few new faces performing with them on the night.

"It was great to see them come back up at the very end and invite anybody in the audience that had an instrument up with them. It was great for the young people, for all of them to come up onto stage, and all play together," she said, noting that for many of the young musicians it was their first time performing in front of a large audience: "The young musicians got to play in front of probably about 200 people which is a first for a lot of them and they got to play alongside amazing talent like Maggie Maguire. It was really, really great."

On Saturday, June 11, the first of the Fermanagh Fleadh competitions took place in St. Tierney's Primary School in the village.

"We actually had eight new trophies that were sponsored by local businesses this year," said Fiona.

Following the competitions, there was a youth session hosted by McCagues with a special guest appearance by Tommy McDermott.

"Tommy is going to be 90 this year. He sang and performed for probably about 60 to 70 young people in that room," explained Fiona, adding that the youth session was well supported by the young performers' families and friends.

Later that night there was a singing session in the Derrygannon Hall which had a great turnout, with a few visitors from abroad joining in the craic and enjoying the traditional Irish songs.

Throughout the weekend there were 'Seisún Trails' with Traditional music sessions in various venues across the village.

On Sunday morning (June 12) there were more Fleadh competitions and later in the afternoon, crowds gathered for the Fleadh Cultural Community Parade.

The parade started at St. Tierney's PS and travelled through the village to the community centre.

"The local primary schools and football clubs, they all came out and supported the parade. Each local primary school had a theme to dress up with so it was brilliant to see all the young people there," said Fiona.

Following the parade there was a 'Jig at the Rig' where anybody who had an instrument with them were invited to play.

Live music continued all afternoon at the Gig Rig with performances from Blue Orchard, Sinéad McKenna, Oisín Murphy and Micky Fearon, and headliners, local band Tully.

Describing the Fermanagh Fleadh 2022 as a "fantastic weekend" with a "great party atmosphere", Fiona added: "It was a great festival. We were absolutely delighted that whenever everything had wound up, there was little to no rubbish left on the streets. We were greatly surprised as we were were ready for a big clean-up but everybody was was great and all took care of the community."
