Last Thursday (August 18), students across the district received their A-Level results, marking the beginning of the next chapter of their lives as they go on to either university, higher education, travel or work.

Education Minister Michelle McIlveen congratulated the A-Level and AS-Level students receiving their results following the first public examinations since 2019 and the start of the pandemic.

The Minister acknowledged the significant challenges faced by these young people during the past three academic years, which she said makes their achievements all the more remarkable.

 

St. Joseph’s College

The A-Level cohort of St. Joseph’s College celebrated an excellent set of A-Level results, with a 95 per cent pass rate and 86 per cent of students achieving three grades A*- C.

Principal Mrs. Palmer said: "We’ve seen really positive results this year which I think reflects the resilience of our young men in how they have got through the past couple of years.

"We are ever grateful to their teachers, parents and carers in keeping them motivated. The results that they are getting today are fantastic, and I am just so proud of them all!

"We wish our young men all the very best as they move on to the next chapter of their educational lives."

 

St. Fanchea's College

The staff in St. Fanchea’s College are delighted with the results achieved by their Post-16 students.

Principal Maurice Collins said: "As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic over the past number of years, the students have been through a very anxious and difficult period.

"The past academic year did see a return of some sense of normality in education, following the re-introduction of the first public examinations since 2019.

"Despite the many challenges, we are confident that our students have achieved their full potential across a range of A-Level and other BTEC Level 3 courses at both AS and A2 Level.

"We wish all of our Post-16 students continued success in their future courses or employment pathways.”

 

Fivemiletown College

Fivemiletown College Board of Governors and staff offered a huge congratulations to all their students in Years 13 and 14 on "another excellent set of AS and A2 Level results".

Principal Janice Allen said: "These results are a reflection of the positive work ethic of students, the support of parents and the dedication of teaching and non-teaching staff.

"Our students have shown remarkable resilience in overcoming the challenges of the past two years, and we are delighted that all our leavers have now secured their places beyond school, whether at university, college or in employment.

"We wish all our leavers every success as they now embark upon the next stage of their journey."

 

Devenish College

The principal of Devenish College, Simon Mowbray, said that the school is "once again delighted" to record a "very pleasing" set of results.

Mr. Mowbray noted: “Our students have worked extremely hard over the past two years and should feel very proud of their dedication to their studies and their subsequent achievements.

"These results reflect the exceptional dedication, expertise and commitment of our staff and the significant support provided by their parents

"These results are all the more significant, given the huge hardships the students have faced as a result of Covid-19.”

The college is also delighted with the AS results which will guarantee continued improvement next year.

 

St. Kevin's College

Saying that after two years of hard work, St. Kevin's students have "outdone themselves", principal Gary Kelly said: "A big congratulations to all Year 14 students; the hard work the students and teachers have put in to counter the effects of Covid-19 has paid off today.

"A-Level results are as good or better than they were in previous years before Covid."

Some 70 per cent of students in the Lisnaskea school achieved three A-Level results, grade A* - C, and 100 per cent achieved two A-Levels, grade A*- E.

"St. Kevin's College is proud of all its students who put superb effort into their studies, showcased in these results," said Mr. Kelly.

 

Mount Lourdes

Principal Sinead Cullen commended the Year 14 students of Mount Lourdes Grammar School on an "outstanding and impressive" set of A-Level results.

She said: "The Board of Governors, Senior Leadership Team and staff are delighted and very proud of our students’ success.

"Students performed exceptionally well in all subjects, and I congratulate each student on their individual success.

"The results of our students are particularly commendable given the context of these examinations, with them being the first formal examinations students have completed since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"We wish all our students continued success in their future studies and chosen career paths."

 

South West College

South West College's Interim Chief Executive, Leo Murphy, said that the level of success of students is "testament to the high level of teaching and learning that goes on within the college".

He continued: "All students are to be congratulated as they all worked extremely hard throughout the year, and I am delighted that all their hard work has paid off. We wish them every success in their future studies and careers.

“More students are opting for the Extended Diploma courses, which are a three A-Level equivalent qualification that extends and deepens knowledge in specialist vocational areas such as business, construction, engineering, arts and sport, to mention but a few."

 

Enniskillen Royal Grammar School

The principal of Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, Elizabeth Armstrong, commended her students on their A-Level results, noting how they showed "resilience and perseverance" throughout the pandemic.

She said: "We are absolutely delighted with the A-Level results of the class of 2022 who, with the support of their teachers and parents, have shown much resilience and perseverance throughout Covid-19 to produce a truly sparkling set of results.

"Overall, 54 per cent of all the grades at A2 were at A* or A and a third of all the pupils had at least one A* in their portfolio – 28 students had three A grades or better.

"These excellent results now take our students on to courses as diverse as Actuarial Science and Medicinal Chemistry at QUB, International Relations at Royal Holloway, London and Environmental Geoscience at Glasgow."

 

St. Michael's College

The school community of St. Michael’s College were "absolutely delighted" with the results achieved by the A-Level students.

Principal Mark Henry said: "The Post-16 boys have worked incredibly hard in very challenging circumstances over the course of the past two years and these results are testament to their resilience as well as their academic ability.

"I am delighted that the vast majority of the boys have been placed in their chosen course at university, with many having secured places at some of the most prestigious universities in the UK and in Ireland.

"We wish them all continued success with their studies."

 

Erne Integrated College

There were smiles and celebrations as Post-16 students from Erne Integrated College received their results last Thursday morning.

School principal Jimmy Jackson-Ware said: "We are extremely proud of the achievement of all our Post-16 students.

"They have shown resilience and a determination to succeed in the most challenging circumstance of the pandemic.

"A real strength of Erne Integrated college is the positive and respectful relationship between our students and staff.

"They worked together to reap this reward. We wish the students happiness and fulfilment as they now move on to the next stage of their educational journey."

 

Castlederg High School

Principal Mrs. Susan Wilson expressed her delight at the school's excellent A-Level results.

She said: ''We are completely overjoyed for our students. They have been on a long journey over the past three years and they have excelled themselves.

"I am extremely proud of their outstanding achievements, and am so delighted to see them on their way to their chosen careers.

"I would also like to thank our highly-dedicated staff, teaching and non-teaching, who were instrumental in such high achievements.

"Their dedication over the past number of years to supporting our students in every way they can, has been inspirational.

"Huge credit also goes to the parents and carers of all our students. We are indebted to them for their continual support of our school. It is a bright day indeed for all involved."
