A chef who was driving home from work when she was detected speeding was also uninsured in the car she was driving.

Police detected an Audi A3 travelling at 83mph on the A4 Belfast Road near Lisbellaw on May 8, 2022, at around 11.20pm.

They spoke with the driver, Terri Donaghy (23) of Cloneen Drive, Moneymore, Co. Tyrone who made no reply after caution.

A fixed penalty notice was issued concerning the speeding and she was ordered to produce her driving licence and insurance within seven days.

An AXA insurance policy was shown to the police but it did not cover Donaghy to drive the Audi A3 which police confirmed with AXA.

Donaghy's solicitor, Gary Black, told Enniskillen Magistrates Court that Donaghy was a chef at a local hotel and was travelling home.

He said that on this particular day her car had broken down and she took her sister's car on the assumption she was covered. However, it did not as although Donaghy had full comprehensive insurance on her car she did not have a third-party extension to drive other cars.

Mr. Black added that Donaghy, who had nine penalty points on her licence, was aware that some sort of disqualification was inevitable.

District Judge Steven Keown gave Donaghy credit for her early plea and clear record.

He said it was a "fairly technical offence" before disqualifying her from driving for two weeks and fining her £350 for having no insurance.
